Serving the Inch Island Community

This site exists to gather news and updates relevant to our island in one place. Whether it's council planning decisions, wildlife sightings at the nature reserve, community events, or stories about our island's rich heritage — you'll find it here.

About Inch Island

Inch Island (Irish: An Inis, meaning "the island") covers approximately 13 square kilometres in Lough Swilly. The island's highest point, Inch Top, rises to 222 metres and offers panoramic views across the lough to Rathmullan and the Fanad Peninsula.

The island is home to Inch Castle, a 15th-century tower house overlooking the water, and Inch Fort at the northern tip — an early 19th-century defensive structure. The Inch Wildfowl Reserve on the eastern shores is one of County Donegal's most important wetland sites, supporting diverse populations of breeding and wintering birds.

Community Resources

These local Facebook pages are excellent sources of community news and updates:

  • Fahan, Inch & Burt — Community page covering the wider area including Inch Island
  • Inch Hall — Updates from Inch Hall, the community centre on the island

We'd recommend following both pages for the latest on local events, news, and community activities.

Accuracy & Corrections

We gather information from public sources including news outlets, official announcements, and community contributions on social media. While we strive for accuracy in everything we publish, we cannot independently verify all details — particularly historical information and claims shared by community members.

When reporting community knowledge or local accounts, we attribute these to their sources and use appropriate language to indicate they are claims rather than established facts. We present multiple perspectives where they exist.

Spotted an error? We're committed to correcting mistakes promptly. If you notice something inaccurate in any of our articles, please contact us with details and we'll investigate and update the content as needed.
